Riad Tourtit is located in a mountain village called Ait Souka, 15 minutes’ walk from Imlil: where all treks to Toubkal National Park start. The guesthouse is owned by a Berber family living for decades in the heart of the high Atlas Mountains of Morocco.
Dar Ait Souka
Dar Ait Souka is the ideal budget accommodation for trekkers and outdoor enthusiasts who want to spend some time in this part of the High Atlas. It´s elevated located offers incredible panoramic vistas of the valleys and mountain passes with the added bonus of being surrounded by awesome peaks, including Mount Toubkal at 4167 metres.
The Mountain refuges in the region are all owned by CAF or by local Berber people. Taib can book them all year round and has a long and trusting relationship with the owners. They are laid out in a dormitory style, some with bunk beds and have shared bathrooms.
Trekking in the mountain regions takes you well away from roads and towns. Accommodation is usually in small family run gites with simple rooms, sometimes dormitory style with floor level matresses and blankets. It is advisable to bring your own sleeping bag. Facilities are basic.
Tents are only used in summer in the Atlas Mountains and are like private tents because every couple or single person can have their own tent. In the Desert we use them in winter. Ask about treks that include camping as part of the accommodation and also treks that have options to camp.
We use a number of different kinds of accommodation for trekking depending on the type of trek and the time of year. Sometimes treks will use more than one kind of accommodation. We can also arrange accommodation before or after your trek in Imlil or Marrakech, just let us know when you book your trek. All our accommodation in Imlil is either a local riad or a guest house with double/single en-suite rooms.
Guesthouses are usually found in the Berber villages and are run by local people, usually a family. They have showers, toilets and nice terraces. Another type of guesthouse is the riad, which is perhaps the type of housing most prominent in the popular imagination when thinking about living in Morocco. Riads are buildings with a central square in the middle and rooms looking down into the centre. Taib has access to small riads with private rooms and en suite facilities.
