Day Trek to Sidi Chamharouch.
Follow in the footsteps of the pilgrims who make the trek up from Imlil to the Marabout of Sidi Chamharouch.
Your driver will collect you from the meeting point in Marrakech and travel through Berber villages and valleys up into the heart of the High Atlas Mountains to the busy trail head village of Imlil. At 1740 metres it is a great setting off point for many treks and Toubkal Summit Adventures.
Our hike today follows the first part of the trek up to the Toubkal base camp winding its way up to Aremd, a jumble of houses built on a rocky spur. From there you can see the way ahead up the flood plains to the peaks ahead. Following the rocky path along the edge of the flood plain, with goat herds foraging along the route, mules passing you laden with gear headed for the refuge, you trek up for around 2 to three hour before reaching the small village of Sidi Chamharouch at 2350 meters.
A white rock sits atop what was once the dwelling of the saint, and nearby across a bridge is a mosque, only admissible for Muslims. Tiny shops and small eateries are open for refreshments and souvenirs. Your guide will prepare you a simple, delicious picnic, and you can soak up the atmosphere of the surrounding peaks and landscapes. After a rest you will return to Imlil, though perhaps by a different route through Aremd and the walnut groves to reach Imlil. After a refreshing mint tea, your driver will take you back to Marrakech. Approximately 9 hours including transfers and the trek.
